A note about unfairness,,,

There's a great deal of misunderstanding of the 100 years old Israeli Palestinian conflict. There's a great deal of disinformation about it in iPeace today. And there's a great deal of manipulation end exploitation of the situation, some of it very cynical.

Here's part of a message I and 45 others received yesterday:

"Israel is the attacker since centuries ago - Jews dont have a land and thats a fact. and they have made protocols and through them have prepared Everything until this very day for this to happen. it doesn't happen because of a dead Israeli or a few bombs... its a plan!!! to destroy Palestinians once and for all... its been carried out in steps and they are very clear to those following the news correctly (so not from TV) and who know... this is pure denocide and it has to stop NOW."

"no one should worry about Jews! they are wealthy and free and happy - and rich and fat with their big cars and small hearts...be assured they are taken care of.

now - can we go back to poor Palestinians who are tortured and squeezed like rats in one small hole and now killed in hundreds.... evey day! thank YOU"

Needless to say that the sender is no longer with us, but there are more like her, and they influence those who don't know.

The reason that I am writing this to you is what I read on the comment wall of Noa's blog: "a letter to my Palestinian brothers in Gaza"

If I have any credibility with you, I will tell you this: There are very few fiercer and more determined peace warriors than Noa. Not Annie Lennox, not Bono and not Yoko Ono. Period. They are just more famous than her.

Noa has dedicated her life to peace activism. She is constantly taking risks to fulfill her dream of a peaceful Middle East. Many in her country think her a traitor for that. You can read about it HERE

Even a peace warrior may speak his mind. That's all what she did, in a sensitive and compassionate fashion. She said what she believes is the truth. She said what many Arab leaders say publicly.

And she got showered with comments that she does not deserve. I think that this is not the way we should treat someone who should be our hero.

She wrote you a comment in response:

"i have read some of your comments and all make me very sad, even the compassionate ones, as they are full of sorrow. sorry i share.

to those of you who claim i do not know history, i will say, unfortunately i do. i know it well. i know israel's part in establishing organizations like hamas to counter other organizations she found to be negative, i also know that things that start one way often end another. sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.

as i have said, i am a well known critic of my country. i think she has acted stupidly on countless accounts.

but i also know this: israel wants peace. israel does not want gaza. israel pulled out of gaza at great expense and dismantled its settlements there. israel wants to exist. deserves to exist.

our situation is complicated, so complicated.

once, israelis could be imprisoned for talking to the PLO. Abie Natan, founder of 'the voice of peace' radio station that we loved so much, was such a victim.

today, the PLO are as accepted as the Likud. today, everyone knows a Palestinian state will exist, it is only a matter of finalizing the deal, and all this, with MANY players with BIG interests, oil, water, power, weapons, control, religion, all the cholera you can imagine.

in the midst of all this, people die.

no, i am not comparing traumatized children to dead ones, what warped mind would assume that (chris..?)

no, i do not wish Hamas dead, i just want them to stop terrorizing gaza and israel. from my point of view, they could all go sit on the beach somewhere and have a couple of tequilas. i just want them far away from me and all peace lovers on both sides of the fence, UNLESS they choose dialogue over violence.

but most of all, MOST of all, i want us all to just STOP this madness!!

stop the killing on BOTH sides!! stop the propaganda! stop the hatred! PLEASE!!!!!!!

please...."

You may say I'm a dreamer. or what kind of iPeace we want.

I received a message from Stephanie:

David
If anyone is on our minds these days.....guess who it is.
Why don't you keep an online journal to let us know how YOU are doing.
We are all curious to know. You work miracles, keep us going and growing.
And you??
Hmm..

Why not? 85 messages in iPeace and same amount of emails can wait.

First, I am tired, very tired. I have been working 16 hours days since the beginning of the Gaza war trying to keep the iPeace space, free as it is, under some sort of control.
I feel and understand the pain, anger, shock and horror that bring many of us to express themselves. Yet at the same time we need to set guidelines to keep iPeace a place of peace.

I am very sad and frustrated because of this futile war. I say futile because it will not bring peace. It will bring more hate, lifelong pain and despair. It will bring more distrust and fear. And if we let it, it will kill hope.

I am also angry because I see iPeace being exploited by hate mongers, racists and propaganda peddlers. I spend hours on end reading blogs, discussions and mass messaging. Among words of encouragement, unity and warmth, I also find a lot of manipulation, half truths, hate and outright lies. The war on public awareness is been battled in iPeace. The victims of this war are all of us, especially those who don't know the elusive facts of this 100 year old conflict.

This war is futile too, because hating Israel or the Hamas more will not bring peace or justice, nor will it bring back the dead. There is only one way, the peace way, iPeace way. I have no doubt that our way will prevail.

I feel hope when I read the correspondence between Majed, who is trapped in bombarded Gaza to Myron, an Israeli who lives in a settlement in the west bank. I know that they are also talking on the phone. Any member who takes part of this thread can feel the power of the friendship being formed. It's a friendship stronger than any dividing wall. This makes me feel accomplished. We made it possible.

My heart sings when I read your poetry, look at your visual art, listen to your music, see you forming new friendships and celebrating diversity. We are almost 15,000 today, we come from over 180 countries, we own the culture of the world and we believe in our power to effect change.

What comments you write on my page fills me with energy every day. Here's a little sample:

Bruce
David -- I've been thinking about you -- often. I was just now noting that iPeace is up past 14,000 members now. You have touched a nerve, and are convening a lot of hope. We all owe you a lot of thanks -- I hope you can feel that, because I know that thousands of people appreciate what you have done, and the way you have done it.

Caithleen
David, Thankyou for your tireless efforts. Inspirational. At times the path seems tough and fruitless, but not hard compared to those brothers and sisters suffering. We must continue to work hard for Peace...we must be supportive and united in our efforts. So much good will and intentions...how can we truly harness this energy to make a difference....now? It is urgent.

Ruach
David, the warmest of heart wishes to you pre - iPeace day.

So many people have told me how deeply iPeace has changed their lives, how much respect they feel present here. How empowering it is. How unique it is. Read the comment on my page from Douglas. These are difficult times. Like the roots of a tree... stay firm in your vision.

With all the pain we feel today and will probably feel in the coming days, we must keep iPeace peaceful and resent anyone who tries to spoil it.

This is your iPeace. This is what you wrote about it:

Paul
iPeace is a new borderless movement of peaceful and nonviolent people united by and advocating the common humanity of all mankind.

Sheila
iPeace is an open channel for communication. iPeace is the opposite of isolation, fear and ignorance.
iPeace is inspiration. Coming from a region, where mistrust prevails, there are often moments of no hope, no faith, no optimism. iPeace is like a torch I want to make burn as brightly as possible - a torch that reflects love, respect, hope, acceptance, giving ... and peace on earth. The more we work together the brighter the light will be to hand over to future generations.

Tony
It reaches to the depth of my soul , in poetry, i can convey my inner spirit , my tears , iPeace set me free , gave me love and friends united in one , a bond of love and mutual understanding.

iPeace is a vibrantly alive creative hub of caring passionate people from everywhere, with computer skills, education, and vision. The world urgently needs creative approaches to its ancient problems, and the international energy of this place is exciting, potent, and capable.

iPeace what does it mean to me: to me it means there is love, giving, receiving, peace, happiness in the world. We should to thrive for all iPeace stands for if we are go on living in harmony. I love you all.

I find myself dropping into iPeace for a bit of tranquility. I love the connection and communication between friends and the respect that is woven into the very fabric that holds iPeace together.

Stephanie
iPeace means that all of a sudden, it is actually possible that one can feel connected as human beings, different races, religions, all drawn towards one peaceful word: PEACE. The opportunity to speak our voice, united, peacefully, towards one goal, that in getting along, in a world that was, most likely, meant to be lived in just this way.

iPeace to me is Sanctuary. There are many threads in this Tapestry of Vision. The Vision is one of Interconnection and Peace. Sanctuary is sacred space; we are building that place of refugee and renewal in this strange new medium.

iPeace for me started from one self to the other with tolerances and affections.
Being compassionate and total understandings in each cause so as the effects.
iPeace is a new modern and intelligent way to connect the world without boundaries to share and observe opinions towards whats happening to the world today. It is an active electronic blood stem working towards a common vision for world PEACE for all living beings.

iPeace stands for me as my and everybody's loving "I.nmost P.ersonal E.ndeavor for A.uthenticity, C.ontenance and E.mpathy" in the world....
Pure intellectual knowledge without the global wisdom of our HEARTS and our SOULS is a "dead end".

iPeace is a refuge from the storm,
from the madness in this world,
It's a place to call home.
a place for hearts to reach each other,

iPeace, for me, is an avenue in which we all can stroll down and speak to our fellow man the message we all so desperately need to hear. It is the valley that streams our beacons of Light from we who are 'LightHouse's'. Spreading overstanding of what must be and be heard. "YOU" are the 'i' in iPeace.

Nadim
Unlike those social networks which expose the baser side of human nature, iPeace is a shining light for human nobility. iPeace reflects the universal desire for peace and brotherhood.

iPeace brought a rush of fears
until I saw they were mine
I dug and soared the iPeace fields
And found this place Divine

There's not a word or vision of
that doesn't show concern
for all the corners of the earth
The journeys we have learned

I know I'm safe I feel it so
no harshness this I know
This peace I embrace in cyber space
A place I can call home..

Peace is a quiet place in our minds where there is no war or greed or poverty or cruelty...the important thing is to make that quiet place reality, and not only a utopian idea. I believe it will be possible one day.

My iPeace Day

I case you were wondering how I am spending iPeace Day. I will drive now to Beer Sheva, my home town, to pick up my parents and bring them over to my house. My father is 87 and has difficulty walking, my mother is 78. There is just no possible way for them to get to a safe place in the 45 seconds which take a missle to get from Gaza to their house.

Since early this morning 5 Grad missiles fired by Hamas from Gaza hit my home town. One of them hit a class room at my high school (picture on top). Luckily school day was canceled because of the missiles and no one was hurt.

I was hoping for a happier iPeace Day for myself and for all of iPeace Palestinian members. maybe next year.

I refuse to lose hope. We need to find a way to talk to our Palestinian cousins. War will never be the solution.

I wish the rest of you can share your peace happily.

A Peace Warrior's Thoughts about the Gaza Tragedy

This is probably my most important blog to date,

We are today almost 14000 people of peace in iPeace. Most of us are ordinary peaceful people, many of us are peace activists, but some of us, relatively few, are what I call Peace Warriors. These few have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of peace. One of these people is Noa or Achinoam in Hebrew. You can read all about Noa's life, career and peace activism HERE or visit Noa's page HERE

I asked Noa to write a blog for iPeace Day and share with us what she feels and thinks about the tragic events in Gaza strip.

Here's what she wrote. Please read it carefully and watch her video at the end.

Dear friends of iPeace.

I was asked by my friend David Califa to write something about the tragic situation we are in now.
I want to tell you about my friend Issam, a Palestinian peace activist that used to live in Gaza. Issam is one of the most magnificent human beings I know, kind, open-hearted, devoted, a great man as modest as he is inspiring.
Issam was forced to flee Gaza in the dead of night after his life was threatened by Hamas. His family was taken out after numerous efforts by his Israeli friends, including Amos Davidowitz and the Peres Center for Peace (and myself).

Some of his other colleagues were not as lucky. They were shot dead, point blank. Or, asked to choose which leg they preferred to lose, right or left. Or, thrown off buildings. Or decapitated.

Sounds gory, right? Sounds unreal! But it’s not.

Hamas is a horrible, ruthless terrorist organization bent on eternalizing the violent conflict in our area in the name of Allah, for the sake of power, blood thirsty fanatic passions and all the other sick demons you can conjure in your imagination. They have taken the people of Gaza hostage, they have brainwashed the children and murdered the liberal, peace loving activists in cold blood. They have driven every bit of hope and light out of an already miserable strip of land. They have stripped, as many before them, Islam of its beauty and honor, of its glory and wisdom, and thrown it and the miserable people of Gaza into the darkest night of their history. They are as bad as it gets.

My heart goes out to the innocent people of Gaza. What a mistake they made, what a fatal mistake, to democratically elect such a bunch of repugnant, violent thugs to govern them. Like a young woman who decides to marry a wife-beating drunk who ends up murdering her just to spite her father. How stupid, how miserable, how pathetic.

I am angry, I am so angry at all of this!! I am sick and tired of it all, I wish so many mistakes had not been made over all these years, but I feel I must remind you all out there, that mistakes were made by BOTH SIDES, and that there is definitely NOT one side to blame for our complicated situation. What I can say for sure, that in this moment of time, there is only ONE side to blame, and that is HAMAS. There is no way that ANY one of your “enlightened” countries, my European friends (enlightened, of course, after killing 75 million people in two horrible world wars!!! We in the Middle East are nowhere as talented as you in that sense...) would put up with constant bombing of your territories day after day after day without reacting. Do you know 2 missiles fell a few hundred meters from my friend Gil Dor’s home???? He was that close to the END! (Gil Dor is my guitarist, musical director and close friend, an extraordinary human being)

And all this crying about the reaction being too strong? What??? What is too strong? Is there a measuring cup? Is there a scale? Is there thermometer for violence? Is there a life worth more or less?? Or is there just a lot of crappy politics and oil-money and hatred and anti-Semitism and ass-licking? You can imagine what I think is true.

Israel pulled out of Gaza. We left. We gave it back, without asking anything in return.
The next thing that happened is that, like a knife in the back, the people of Gaza elected Hamas.
A knife, yes.
In their own back.

How sad, how pathetic.

Hamas does not recognize the state of Israel. They will not talk.
Israel wants to talk. Israel has come VERY LONG WAY from the times when people were jailed for meeting with the PLO, when the idea of a Palestinian state was unheard of, when settlements were coming up like mushrooms.
Now, right and left of the political map all know the truth: settlements will go down, a Palestinian state will be established, there is no solution but dialogue.
Dialogue, but not monologue.

We have elections soon in Israel. I PRAY we will elect a leader who will TALK. There are at least 2 out of 3 that will do so, maybe the third as well. No, not ideal, far from it. For me, the whole issue could have been completed in Geneva, or before hand, but there was always ego, fear, suspicion, and above all GOD, on BOTH sides, there to destroy our chance.

And you, my Palestinian friends. What of you???

Are YOU electing a leader who will talk? Are you thinking Peace or only more violence and revenge? Are you wishing a college education for your children or belt of explosives and a couple of virgins?

What do YOU want?? And what are you doing to get there??

For whoever wants to talk, Israel’s door is opened. Further, we peace-loving Israelis are the first to criticise our country when we feel that is in order. We are a TRANSPARENT, OPEN society. And you, my Palestinian friends? What of YOUR self criticism? Where are the voices of reason????????

My ancestors escaped Yemen, escaped the Muslim violence and hatred of Jews, walked across the desert with barely the clothes on their backs to finally arrive at this promised land. Nobody is even suggesting them compensation for all they left behind in Yemen. And they would never ask for it. They have built their lives here, step by step, and finally, after 4 generations, I came along, with a voice, a heart and a great deal of passion. A free, strong woman, who fights for peace.

Now, it is your turn, my Palestinian friends, to do the same. Go to your promised land, build it step by step, democratically, without hatred. give birth to free, strong passionate children with a mind and heart opened to the wonders of the world, who will bear the torch of progress, humanity and peace.

Until then, I wish you health. I wish my friend Issam and all the amazing people risking their lives for peace, health.
I reach out my hand for peace every day,
No religion will EVER rule me but compassion, kindness, and love.

My New year’s wish, is that the fighting stop. That SOMEBODY see the light.
I am waiting for a miracle.

May this New Year bring one, soon.
